The European Union is ready to supply Morocco “all the necessary assistance” following the earthquake which caused hundreds of victims during the night. This was reported by a spokesperson for the European Commission. «The EU crisis center monitors the situation closely», he adds.

«I am close to Morocco due to the tragic earthquake that has sown death and destruction. Italy is ready to help, also for the rescue phases, the Moroccan authorities in these difficult times. A prayer for the victims and their families”: the Foreign Minister writes Antonio Tajani on Twitter. «At the moment – adds Tajani – we have no news of
wounded Italians”. There are around 200 Italians present in the country at the moment, said Tajani, who is in constant contact with the embassy in Rabat and the consulate in Marrakech to provide maximum assistance to our compatriots. He is working to ensure the return of tourists to Italy. «The first important thing is to contact all Italians. We follow the evolution of the situation minute by minute”, underlined the head of the Farnesina.

Meanwhile, the first testimonies arrive: «We are very worried, we are blocked outside the hotel on the Tizi n’test pass and the road is blocked by a landslide on both sides. Now we are heading towards Agadir, luckily it’s thirty kilometers downhill but we have to hurry because it’s starting to get hot.” This was reported by an Italian tourist on holiday in Morocco with her husband and her 15-year-old son who were surprised by last night’s earthquake while they were in a hotel in the Atlas Mountains.
