Now it’s official: the political forces of the progressive camp (Democratic Party, 5 Star Movement, Green and Left Alliance, Countercurrent and +Europa) have formalized the candidacy of the lawyer Antonella Russo as mayor of Messina for the local elections next May.

Musolino is not on the list: is the senator looking to the centre-right?

A list which is currently missing Italia Viva, with Dafne Musolino believed to be “in dialogue” with the centre-right candidate Marcello Scurria. The candidacy was ratified jointly at the provincial and regional tables of the coalition at the end of a programmatic discussion.

“Messina is not condemned to choose between Deluchism and the centre-right: the alternative exists”

“The shared path – we read in a note – has defined clear priorities for the city, in continuity with the work carried out in the territory: strengthening of public services, right to health, fairer social policies, attention to neighbourhoods, opposition to the Strait Bridge, sustainable development and quality work. Messina is not condemned to choose between Deluchism and a centre-right that governs in Palermo and Rome producing clear and negative effects on Sicily and the country. An alternative exists: more social justice, rights, administrative quality and sustainable development. The progressive forces present themselves united around a candidacy that arises from common work and offers the city a clear and credible government proposal”.

Russo: “Responsibility and identity must walk together”

“I thank my party, allies and leaders for their trust and shared work. It is a pride to take on this commitment for the future of Messina. I have always experienced politics as a service, with institutional loyalty and responsibility, putting common work at the centre”, says Antonella Russo, mayoral candidate for the center left in the Messina local elections.

I believe in a government based on structured dialogue, open processes and shared responsibilities: from resolutions to rights, every choice tells the values of a community. We are proudly progressive: responsibility and identity must walk together, with authority built on merit and guided by listening.

In the same way, a coalition is truly a force when no one is a guest: the plurality of voices is an asset if it translates into shared responsibility and a unity that does not cancel out sacrosanct differences. And the commitment that I formally accept today is in respect of those who recognize and support one of the subjects that compose it and its peculiarities in the values of this broad field. Respect that I will always express by giving space, listening and voice to all the souls of the center-left. Messina has the right to a serious and competent policy, based on legality, transparency and public ethics. I carry with me the value of feminist battles: rights as achievements and substantial equality as a measure of democratic quality.

This is the commitment I make to my city.”
