In view of the next local elections, Arcigay Makwan Messina APS intervenes in the city’s political debate with an appeal addressed to the candidates Scurria and Sciacca on the composition of their respective electoral lists.
The president of the association, Rosario Duca, requests the removal of the candidatures of individuals who, as highlighted in the note, “have been guilty of homophobia and apologia of fascism”.
In the statement, Arcigay underlines how “no one forgets and words have weight”, highlighting that discriminatory statements or references to anti-democratic ideologies cannot be considered simple mistakes of the past when one aspires to represent citizenship.
According to the association, the presence in the lists of figures linked to homophobic or nostalgic positions of fascism would represent “an offense to the civil values of the city”. Hence the invitation to candidates to act promptly so that the coalitions are “a mirror of the values of equality, dignity and anti-fascism”.
