Resources for the entertainment sector in Sicily are increasing. This was established at the last meeting by the Schifani council, with the decree for the distribution of regional funds intended for public and private bodies operating in the world of theatre, music and dance.
The provision prepared by the Councilor for Tourism, Elvira Amata, establishes the allocation quotas of 10.8 million euros, between the 8.35 million (one and a half million more than last year) from the Furs, the single regional fund for entertainment, and the 2.46 million provided for by regional law no. 3 of 2016 intended exclusively for public participation theatres.
«This year’s Budget – states councilor Amata – has allowed us to increase resources for the entertainment sector, confirming the Schifani government’s commitment to growing all forms of art and entertainment. This is an area in which Sicily can boast a long and prestigious history, allowing us to cultivate talent and make our island increasingly attractive. The precious role played by public and private bodies in a complementary manner must be promoted and supported.”
The decree assigns 69 percent of the Furs to the private sector, for an amount of 5.34 million euros, according to a distribution that provides a share of 68 percent, equal to 3.63 million, to theatrical activities and the remaining 32 percent, equal to 1.71 million, to musical activities. Just over 417 thousand euros go to festivals and theater for children, while 83.5 thousand euros (equal to 1% of Furs) are reserved for traveling shows.
Almost 5 million are allocated to public entertainment bodies, between the 30 percent share of the Furs (2.505 million) and the funds of regional law 3 of 2016 (2.456 million). 78 percent of this sum, equal to 3.870 million euros, will be allocated to the opera, symphony and music sectors, while just over one million euros, equal to 22 percent of the resources, will go to the prose and dance sectors.
