This morning, at the Paola district house, a participatory seminar was held on the theme of the environment and health and the risks connected to the pollution factors, held by dr. Ferdinando Laghinational vice president of ISDE – Italy, doctors for the environment and regional councilor of Calabria.

The initiative, welcomed with enthusiasm and perfectly organized by the director of the penitentiary institute, Dr. Emilia Buccagnahe saw the active participation of numerous prisoners, attentive and involved, as well as teachers and prison staff, who animated the debate with questions and reflections, demonstrating interest in a theme as current as it is relevant.

Director Laghi illustrated the main health risks related to environmental pollution, focusing in particular on the harmful effects of prolonged exposures to toxic substances and the importance of primary prevention. The seminar is part of the groove of the intense awareness activities that for years characterizes the commitment of lakes, both as a doctor and as an institutional representative.

“Bringing the culture of health and the environment also in contexts such as the prison – said Laghi – is a civic and human duty. Health is everyone’s right and must be guaranteed and protected everywhere.”

The meeting is part of a wider series of initiatives promoted by Ferdinando Laghi on the Calabrian territory to increase awareness of the links between the environment and health, helping to build a more informed, participatory and responsible citizenship.
