Through FIRE-SCENE, the Calabria Region will be able to develop advanced risk assessment tools and risk governance modules specifically targeted to the needs of its territories. Activities will include the implementation of predictive models based on artificial intelligence and the creation of protocols for risk management in tourist areas, with the aim of protecting residents and visitors in emergency situations. Through this project, Calabria strengthens its commitment to the protection of the territory and local communities, addressing the challenges of climate change with advanced tools and knowledge.

The second project – Fighting fIRes with mathematical Simulations and satellite Technology (FIRST) -, however, made possible thanks to funding from the Italian Space Agency (ASI), and developed in collaboration with INGV, the University of Calabria and the University of Palermo, aims to revolutionize fire emergency management through the advanced use of mathematical simulations and satellite technologies. The FIRST system offers an innovative cloud platform, capable of detecting and monitoring forest fires in real time, enhanced by a predictive model of fire spread. This model integrates meteorological data and information acquired from flying drones, anticipating the direction and intensity of the fire front with great precision. In the event of an active fire, the platform provides detailed information to optimize the intervention of teams on the field, significantly reducing the risk of damage to people and wooded areas. In line with the sustainability and security objectives of the Calabria Region, the FIRST project will also bring long-term benefits, monitoring the recovery of the affected areas and contributing to more resilient and conscious forest management.
