Silver for Italy. The Azzurri came second in the final of the men's 4×400 relay on the sixth and final day of the European Athletics Championships, staged at the Olimpico in Rome. Luca Sito, Vladimir Aceti, Riccardo Meli and Edoardo Scotti (with Alessandro Sibilio giving up the last one, due to cramps felt in the warm-up phase) they stopped the clock at 3'00″81. Gold for Belgium; bronze for Germany, one hundredth behind the Azzurri. The medal does not arrive , however, for Italy in the women's 4x400m, but for the Italians the performance is still one to be remembered. Ilaria Accame, Giancarla Trevisan, Anna Polinari and Alice Mangione have in fact signed the new Italian record running the race in 3:23.40. Gold went to the Netherlands while Ireland took silver. Bronze, finally, for Belgium.
