Italy is silver medalist in the women’s 4×100 mixed relay. Sara Curtis, Benedetta Pilato, Anita Gastaldi and Emma Virginia Menicucci finished second in 3’53″60 behind Great Britain, who outmatched the Italians in the final meters.
And Italy also took silver in the men’s 4×100 mixed relay at the European Championships in Paris. Thomas Ceccon, Nicolo Martinenghi, Alberto Razzetti and Carlos D’Ambrosio in 3’28″86 finished second behind only Russia, bronze to France.
For the technical director of the Italian national swimming team, Cesare Butini, the Italian expedition to Paris is promoted. «It was a more complicated championship than usual with the Russians returning to the race. But we too have raised the level of performance in view of the Olympic journey, consolidating our leading position”, he declared to Rai Butini. «The more experienced ones like Martinenghi, Ceccon, Quadarella and Pilato responded admirably – admits Butini -, «but we also benefited from a very important path on the part of the young people, especially the girls. Curtis, who today gave a change of pace in the women’s relay, is in the Olympus of the world podium, but Borrelli and Gastaldi also reaped the fruits of their commitment”, concluded the director of the Italian team.
The 2026 European Championships ended with yet another Italian medal, with a more than positive outcome for Italy, which finished second in the medal table (13 gold, 15 silver, 15 bronze) behind Great Britain (14-4-8).
