Between 2023 and 2024, real GDP observed a decline in six Italian regions and in the autonomous province of Bolzano. These are Veneto (-0.1%), Marche (-0.1%), Puglia (-0.2%), Calabria (-0.6%), Liguria (-1.1%), Molise (-1.2%) and Bolzano (-1%). This is certified by Eurostat data according to which in 2024, real GDP increased in 169 EU regions compared to 2023, while decreases were recorded in 64 regions.
Broadening the gaze to the whole of Europe, the greatest growth in real GDP was detected in the Yuzhen Tsentralen region in Bulgaria, with an increase of 11.6%, followed by Eastern and Midland in Ireland (+8.5%), Severen Tsentralen, also in Bulgaria (+8.4%), Malta (the only region at this level of detail; +7.0%) and Mayotte, an overseas region of France (+6.2%). In contrast, the highest decline in real GDP was recorded in the Bulgarian region of Yugoiztochen (-12.7%), followed by the Southern region in Ireland (-5.5%) and the French overseas region of La Réunion (-3.7%). This is followed by the Northern and Western region in Ireland and the Austrian region Kärnten, both with a decline of 3.6%.
