Cuban doctors will be able to continue to operate in Calabria until 2027. This is confirmed by the so-called Flows decree definitively approved into law a few days ago by the Senate. The text moves the deadlines forward by 24 months – and therefore from 31 December 2025 to 31 December 2027 – for the temporary employment in Italy of foreign personnel, in particular nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals in derogation from the recognition of professional qualifications and without registration in the Italian Orders. The only restriction is to be registered in the Order of the country of origin but there is no evaluation regarding the equivalence of the qualifications and the training path.
Therefore, the objective set a few months ago by the leaders of the commissioner structure that guides Calabrian healthcare and put in black and white in an amendment to the decree proposed by Forza Italia has materialised. In this region there are almost 400 Caribbean healthcare workers who work in public healthcare facilities located between the Pollino and the Strait.
