Moments of panic and apprehension occurred in Lattarico for a 3-year-old boy who, due to an illness, lost consciousness, remaining defenseless on the ground. However, the intervention of a policeman who immediately implemented life-saving maneuvers and ensured that the child regained consciousness was providential. It was around 8pm, in fact, when, inside the municipal house in the center of Cosenza, a Christmas tombola organized by the community was taking place, with around forty children, the three-year-old, while running and playing calmly, suddenly collapsed on the ground, no longer showing signs of life. The little body of the little boy on the ground, his breathing that seemed to no longer be heard, as well as his little heart, the terrible images in the eyes of those present and which had made them think of the worst. Some of those present let out desperate screams. At that moment, a carabiniere from the Lattarico station was passing by in his car, Rosario Di Baiafree from duty, who was stopped by one of the teachers, present at the bingo, for a request for help, given the dramatic situation. Immediately, Brigadier Di Baia approached the mother, who, in the meantime, was holding the child in her arms, desperate and in tears. Seeing the little one unconscious and breathless. The non-commissioned officer noticed the folding of the tongue and, therefore, grabbed the child, placing him in a supine position and starting to perform the resuscitation maneuvers, for which he is qualified, until the moment in which the child, after a few minutes, reopened his eyes and started breathing again, even though it was still labored, and then made him assume the lateral safety position.
A heroic, courageous and notable intervention that allowed the child to recover slightly. Immediately afterwards the hero carabiniere, as he can be defined for his promptness and skill, took the child to a nearby doctor’s office for an initial check-up. The local doctor immediately found nasal and tonsillar obstruction with reduced cerebral oxygenation. Having arrived on site on 118, the child was taken to the Annunziata hospital in Cosenza, where he is still hospitalized for observation but whose health conditions avoid life-threatening danger.
