A detailed territorial control service was arranged by the police commissioner of the province of Crotone, Renato Panvino, with the aim of strengthening the presence of the police in the most sensitive areas of the capital and of Isola di Capo Rizzuto.
The operation, which involved all the departments of the Police Headquarters and the Specialties – including Flying Squad, Digos, Administrative Police, Immigration Office, Traffic Police and Polfer – was aimed at the prevention and repression of crimes, in particular drug dealing, and the control of subjects subjected to restrictive measures.
The numbers of the operation
During the services, 503 people were identified, of which 138 with criminal records and 32 non-EU citizens, and 223 vehicles were checked in 26 checkpoints. 20 violations of the Highway Code were confirmed, three commercial activities were checked and three people were reported to the Judicial Authority. One person was also reported to the Prefect for possession of drugs for personal use.
Targeted checks and checks on subjects subjected to measures
The Anti-Crime Division and the Flying Squad focused their attention on 19 subjects subjected to measures limiting personal freedom – including house arrest and special surveillance – residing in Isola di Capo Rizzuto, all of whom were checked and found to be present in places of restriction.
At the same time, Digos and the Immigration Office identified 32 non-EU citizens, found to be legal in the national territory.
Roads, stations and traffic under the lens
On the main arteries and state roads, the Traffic Police checked 6 vehicles and 5 people (two of whom tested positive in the SDI database), sanctioning a person for illegal transport of people with simultaneous seizure of the vehicle.
The Railway Police intensified checks in the areas adjacent to the station and along the main access roads, identifying 51 people (25 with criminal records) and checking 30 vehicles.
The Crime Prevention Department crews instead carried out numerous checkpoints in Isola di Capo Rizzuto, identifying 54 people (20 with previous records) and 27 vehicles, with 15 Highway Code sanctions. Among these:
2 for driving without a license
3 for lack of insurance coverage
1 license withdrawn
1 vehicle suspended from circulation
2 administrative arrests
5 vehicle seizures
Administrative sanctions and seizures
The Administrative Police carried out checks on two commercial activities:
In a bar, the illegal occupation of public land was contested, resulting in reports for building checks and the presence of an unauthorized video surveillance system.
In a second financial year, the owner was sanctioned for trading in precious objects without a license, with the seizure of 65 pieces of jewelry worth around 500 euros and a warning for the cessation of the business.
Three complaints and one drug report
During the same day, the Flying Police officers referred three people to the Judicial Authority:
one for violation of the mandatory exit permit,
one for possession for the purpose of dealing of 22.9 grams of marijuana already divided into doses,
and a young man for dangerous ignitions and explosions.
Another subject was reported to the Prefect for personal use of drugs after being found with 6.4 grams of hashish.
During the territorial checks, the officers identified 337 people (71 with criminal records), checked 160 vehicles, issued 5 Highway Code fines and carried out 5 house searches.
