A sudden gesture, badly calculated and ended even worse. As the Carabinieri gazelle approached, he stretched his arm out the window to get rid of the load before the check, hoping that the darkness and haste would do the rest. But the move did nothing to save his hands from being handcuffed. A 42-year-old originally from Lamezia Terme was arrested on Saturday evening on the Falerna Scalo seafront on charges of possession for the purpose of dealing drugs. The operation took place as part of the territorial control services set up by the Carabinieri Company of Lamezia Terme along the Tyrrhenian coastal strip, which is particularly crowded during weekends. A patrol from the Falerna Scalo station, suspicious of the attitude of the man driving his car, decided to come alongside and carry out an inspection. It was at that point that the 42-year-old tried the desperation card: he threw a plastic wrapper from the cockpit into the surrounding area. The military, however, did not allow themselves to be distracted: they immediately recovered the package on the roadside and discovered over 70 grams of pure cocaine inside, which was immediately seized for subsequent chemical and toxicological analysis. According to investigators’ estimates, the narcotic substance, once “cut” and packaged in doses, would have brought in around 6 thousand euros on the illicit market. Drug destined, in all likelihood, to supply the drug dealing squares of the Lamezzo coast and the meeting places of the youth nightlife in the area. At the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Lamezia Terme, the man was placed under house arrest at his home. On 8 September, the Judge for Preliminary Investigations at the Court of Lamezia Terme validated the precautionary measure, placing the suspect under precautionary custody under house arrest pending the developments of the case.
