He died after looking for in vain medical assistance. The tragedy took place on the afternoon of Saturday 24 May, in the center of Falerna: a local man, caught by malaise, went to the service of continuity of care, but he did not find any doctor on duty. Back in the square, he had a collapse and shortly after he died. The local police, who intervened on the spot, confirmed the absence of the health personnel.

A dramatic affair, which rekindles the spotlight on serious critical issues in the management of the garrison. The mayor denounced him Francesco Stellawho wrote to the Prefecture, ASP of Catanzaro, Calabria Region and Public Prosecutor’s Office. “It is an episode of unheard of gravity – he says – that follows other similar reports received in recent weeks by citizens who remained without assistance. We are faced with a fact that requires immediate answers”.

The first alarm, explains the mayor, had been launched on 11 April 2025 Through a first PEC addressed to the authorities: “We had already reported the absence of the doctor despite the fact that there was no official suspension of the service. Everything had been ascertained by the local police”.

The new episode confirms a worrying picture: “This system so managed – writes Stella – constitutes a serious prejudice to citizens’ health. It is unacceptable that an essential health service does not guarantee the presence of staff, especially in moments of emergency”.

According to the Municipality, it is legitimate to hypothesize that “a timely and adequate intervention could have avoided what happened”. For this reason, the mayor also turned to the judiciary, asking to “ascertain any responsibilities and sanction any hypothesis of crime”.

“We can no longer tolerate that similar episodes are repeated. Public health cannot depend on the case or luck,” concludes Stella.
