The Italian Laura Pirovano won the Downhill World Cup. In the last downhill of the season – still in progress – she took the lead, after the first fifteen, thus overtaking her only potential rival, the German Emma Aicher.

“What happened is incredible”

“I don’t know what to say. I knew the race would be difficult and I didn’t even feel that good. I was surprised when I saw the green light and it’s incredible what happened. I still have to realize everything.” These are the words of Laura Pirovano after her success in the Kvitfjell downhill, at the Lillehammer finals, which gave her the 2025/2026 Downhill World Cup. “We congratulated her because it wasn’t easy to win today. She managed to make a clean descent and deserved the cup. Aicher had won here last year and was a formidable opponent”, the compliments, to the microphones of RaiSport, from Sofia Goggia, ninth at 0″81. “As for my race, it was a shame because I practically fell, I lost a lot and luckily it went well for me. However, I am satisfied with how I skied. Tomorrow I’ll compete in the Super-G Cup and I’ll have to stay on top of things, Robinson is a great skier and she did well here last year. The important thing will be to give everything”, adds the Bergamo native, who will play the super-G World Cup tomorrow with New Zealander Alice Robinson, second in the discipline rankings, 63 points behind the Italian.
