A Delta Airlines flight from Atlanta hit a firework while landing at Chicago Midway International Airport. The airline itself reported this in a statement relaunched by CNN.

According to the audio of communications with the control tower, published by Atc.com, the pilot of Delta flight 1076 notified the air traffic controller immediately after the impact. “We just heard the bang on the plane,” he reportedly said, specifying that the aircraft was at about 200 feet above sea level.

Smooth landing and plane under inspection

The air traffic controller responded that he had received numerous similar reports during the evening and that he had already informed the city authorities. The episode occurred while celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence were underway in the United States, with fireworks displays organized in numerous cities, including Chicago.

The company specified that the plane landed regularly, without consequences for passengers and crew. The aircraft was subsequently subjected to the usual technical checks to ascertain any damage sustained in the impact.
