A sudden fire, the screams, the fear. High flames in the late morning today from an apartment on the first floor of a historic building located in a side street of the pedestrian area of Corso Mazzini, in the heart of Cosenza. The tongues of fire caused a column of black smoke that invaded the entire street, attracting the attention of passers-by and traders in the area.
The firefighters arrived on site within a few minutes, with a tanker and a ladder truck, who worked for a long time to put out the fire, which is now completely extinguished. Carabinieri and 118 vehicles were also present and provided aid to several people who were apparently slightly intoxicated by the smoke, but fortunately without serious injuries.
The area was temporarily cordoned off to allow technical surveys and the safety of the building. The causes of the fire are still being ascertained, but the first hypotheses speak of a short circuit or an accidental failure.
