The ancient heart of Cosenza trembles again. Around 4.10pm yesterday afternoon a roar shattered the silence of Vico Campagna due to the partial collapse of an old abandoned building. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the consequences for the residents of the area are serious: Mayor Caruso has in fact ordered the immediate eviction of seven families living in the building adjacent to the collapsed one.
The structure, which has long been in precarious conditions and the victim of decades of deterioration, would have collapsed due to deep water infiltrations and the dilapidation of the floors. A fire brigade team from the headquarters promptly intervened on site, supported by the state police and the municipal police.
The safety operations, coordinated personally by the mayor present at the site of the disaster, made it necessary to block off the entire area.
