The operational activity of the Port Authority – Coast Guard of Crotone continues which, on the night between 17 and 18 July, carried out a rescue and assistance activity for a pleasure craft of approximately 10 metres.
The operation, coordinated in the initial phases by the V MRSC Reggio Calabria, saw the military engaged at sea for over 14 hours.
The alarm raised with “Mayday”
On board the boat there was an Austrian family of three people, including a minor, in difficulty due to the beginning of flooding due to water infiltration into the engine compartment.
The alarm triggered following a “Mayday” signal launched via radio by the unit, which was approximately 36 nautical miles south-east of Capo Colonna (KR), led to the use of the CP321 SAR patrol boat from Crotone.
Once on site, after having ensured the safety of the people on board, the patrol boat escorted the unit and provided assistance to the vehicle up to the old port of Crotone.
The Coast Guard’s appeal
With the increase in recreational activities during the summer period, the Crotone Coast Guard renews its invitation to all sailors to carefully plan each outing at sea, consulting the weather forecasts in advance, checking the efficiency of the unit and the functionality of the safety equipment, fundamental elements for preventing emergency situations and sailing in safe conditions.
