The mayor of Messina proclaimed the city mourning for the day of Monday 7 Aprilin conjunction with the funeral of the young university student Sara Campanellavictim of a heinous murder that took place on April 2nd. The whole city tightens with deep pain around the Campanella family, hit by such a cruel and unjust loss. The funeral will be held at 11 am, at the church of San Giovanni Battista a Misilmer (Palermo). As a sign of condolence and participation, all the public events scheduled for that day will be suspended, the municipal flags will be exhibited at half auction on public buildings and all citizens is invited to observe a minute of silence at 11 am.
“The city mourning is not only a sign of respect and closeness to Sara’s family – said Mayor Federico Basile – but also a strong moment of collective reflection. We must make our voice heard against all forms of violence, especially the one that affects women. Each victim is a deep wound for the entire community”.
The Municipal Administration also invites schools, shops, public and private entities, cultural, sporting and social associations to join the city mourning in the forms deemed most appropriate, helping to honor Sara’s memory with gestures of silence, respect and awareness.
