To define it as a witch-hunt climate would be excessive, but the ricochet of accusations among the centre-right forces, in search of the snipers who have scuppered half a quater manoeuvre, risks bringing tension in the government coalition to a peak in these hours, more than what happened last Thursday at the Ars, compromising from the outset the outcome of the majority meeting called by the President of the Region Schifani next Monday, to close ranks after the one which will pass to the history of the assembly as the «Caporetto of the alliance».
A summit in which Giorgio Assenza, group leader of the Brothers of Italy in the Sala d’Ercole, promises to present himself with an olive branch in his hand, but not with the white flag, in the face of those who point the finger at the Melonians as the only ones responsible. Because mathematics, the MP points out, is not an opinion “and considering that among the 12 FdI deputies in the morning, 4 did not vote”, among the 17 who rejected some of the executive’s measures with a secret vote, “our hypothetical snipers would have been at most 3, because it is impossible that the party councilors, the president of the Budget Commission and of the ARS expressed a contrary opinion. So who were the other 14?”. The finger is pointed not only at the Brothers of Italy, who have not yet digested the seats recently assigned to the top of the healthcare system, but also at the autonomists, who for months have been looking for more space in command posts, but also at some members of Forza Italia in disagreement with Sammartino’s League.
