The Province of Cosenza and the Municipalities of Bocchigliero, Campana, Longobucco, Plataci and San Giovanni in Fiore have signed an agreement for the implementation of the Project “Direct interventions for the prevention of forest fires, the extraordinary maintenance of the road network and the improvement of the eco-sustainable use of forest areas”, financed by the Calabria Region as part of the Program for development activities in the forestry sector 2025/2026.
The details of the agreement
The project, for a total amount of 1,400,000.00 euros and the involvement of approximately 400 workers, was assembled and developed by the Province of Cosenza at the request of the Municipalities involved, in full coherence with the regional objectives of environmental protection, fire risk prevention and sustainable valorisation of the forestry heritage.
On the basis of the signed agreement, the Province of Cosenza will play the role of Coordinator and Beneficiary of the financial resources, as well as sole contact person in relations with the Calabria Region, while the Municipalities of Bocchigliero, Campana, Longobucco, Plataci and San Giovanni in Fiore will be called to concretely implement the project actions envisaged in the area of competence.
The initiative fits fully into the institutional mission of the provincial body, which orients its activity towards the protection and valorisation of cultural, historical, artistic and environmental resources, with particular reference to the strategic value of mountain areas. At the same time, the project strengthens the Province’s commitment to promoting interventions for young people and families, encouraging the full development of the person through the combination of personal empowerment, environmental protection and sustainable management of forestry assets.

The President of the Province of Cosenza, Giancarlo Lamensa, underlines the importance of the agreement, declaring: «This agreement represents a concrete example of virtuous institutional collaboration. The Province of Cosenza has made technical expertise and planning capabilities available to respond to the needs of the territories, in particular of the internal and mountain areas, which require structural and continuous interventions”.
President Lamensa adds: «The prevention of forest fires, the maintenance of forest roads and the eco-sustainable use of natural areas are not just environmental protection actions, but real development policies. Investing in forests means investing in safety, jobs, quality of life and the future for our communities.”
