Former Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond has died at the age of 69. The former MP and member of the Scottish Parliament, who led the country between 2007 and 2014 during the independence referendum, fell ill while giving a speech in North Macedonia. The BBC reports it.
The cause of death
Salmond fell ill while giving a lesson in the afternoon at the School for Young Leaders in Ohrid, a town on the lake of the same name in the south of the Balkan country. The Macedonian authorities said that the causes of death will be ascertained after the autopsy. The School for Young Leaders, whose 15th edition kicked off in early October in Ohrid, is an initiative launched by former Macedonian president Gjorgje Ivanov with the aim of stimulating, preparing and encouraging future new leaders to respond to challenges of modern times, working together to foster positive change. The current course on the theme ‘Leadership for Peace, in which around forty participants take part in a combined online and in-person manner, will end on 13 October.
