The agents of Villa San Giovanni police station of the Police placed a 43-year-old from Naples under judicial police custody, held responsible for the crime of receipt. The man was stopped during a checkpoint, together with a young man, on board a car that had recently disembarked from the ferry coming from Messina.
The two immediately demonstrated a state of nervousness and of intolerance to the control and were then subjected to a search. The officers then found, hidden in the body of the front fender of the car, a beach shorts with a package inside containing several gold jewelry, precious watches and banknotes.
After the discovery, the younger of the two, without documents, fled and disappeared, while the driver of the car was taken to Commissariat and identified thanks to the photo-signaling control carried out by the staff of the Regional Cabinet of Scientific Police of Reggio Calabria.
The investigations carried out with the aid of the Reggio Emilia Flying Squad made it possible to ascertain that part of what was found was the proceeds of a fraud committed to Catania to the detriment of an elderly woman who, with the expedient of her son’s fake accident, had handed over to the scammersstill in the identification phase, gold jewellery, watches and around 3,500 euros in cash.
The judicial authority, after validating the arrest, ordered the man to be arrested precautionary custody in prison.
