«The work carried out in recent months to concretely support Sicilian families and our young people has achieved its first, tangible result. The law of which I was the promoter approved in the last regional budget, with an allocation of 2 million euros, is officially operational. This measure is aimed at covering the costs of urban public transport for young people under the age of twenty, residing in the municipalities of Sicily and belonging to families with an ISEE not exceeding 25,000 euros”. The president of the Institutional Affairs commission at Ars, Ignazio Abbate, says this.
«The objective is clear, to break down the economic barriers that too often limit the right to study and full participation in the social life of our children – he adds – Guaranteeing a free annual pass is not only a help to families, but an investment in the future of our region and a way to promote the use of public transport».
There are 85 Sicilian municipalities that will benefit from it, including Palermo (110,000 euros), Catania (67,000), Messina (60,000) as metropolitan cities. In the province of Ragusa the largest part goes to Ragusa (73,789 euros) and Modica (49,183). Vittoria (35,261), Scicli (23,142), Ispica (18,154), Chiaramonte (19,284) and Acate (16,094) also benefited. “This amount is not an end point, but a starting point.
The commitment that we have made as a parliamentary group of the DC and now implemented by the regional Infrastructure Department ensures the benefit to all Sicilian municipalities with an urban public transport service. I want to thank the department and the regional offices for the speed with which they gave regulatory follow-up to my amendment.”
