According to the Israeli authorities, the fourth body transferred to Israel by Hamas is that of an unidentified Palestinian. The Times of Israel reports it. The four bodies handed over by Hamas to the Red Cross on Tuesday evening in Gaza City, and then transferred to the Israeli army, had not been identified by the terrorist group.
Hamas’ version is different: the fourth body returned yesterday and not identified as belonging to one of the hostages who died in captivity in Gaza belongs to an Israeli soldier. High-level sources in the Movement reported this to al Jazeera.
“The body that the enemy claims does not belong to an Israeli is that of a soldier who was captured in a resistance operation,” the source said. According to the Islamist movement, the soldier died in a clash in the Jabaliya refugee camp in May 2024 and his body was not returned. Hamas announced it publicly at the time, but the IDF denied it, the Times of Israel recalls.
Meanwhile, qualified Italian sources have confirmed that there will also be Italian Carabinieri to supervise the Rafah crossing as soon as it is reopened. The soldiers of the European Union Border Assistance Mission (Eubam in the English acronym), eight in total as announced by the Army, will be deployed at the border post between Egypt and southern Gaza.
According to the Israeli press, the Israeli government should allow the passage of trucks with aid for the population of the Strip as early as tomorrow, based on the Sharm el Sheikh agreement. The reopening was blocked due to Hamas’ delay in handing over the bodies of the hostages who died in captivity.
