The maritime police checks aimed at the protection of the marine environment and the contrast of fraud fishing are also at sea. The services were prepared through the use of patrol boats of the Port Authority – Coast Guard of Crotone and the local maritime office of Catanzaro Marinaaffecting the protected marine area of Capo Rizzuto and seaside stretches between the municipalities of Cutro And Botricello.
During the control activity, over 1000 meters of mail networks inside the protected marine area and another 500 meters between Cutro and Botricello were seized. Fishing tools were used illegally, without the prescribed reports, representing a danger to navigation and violating the rules that allow their use only to professional fishermen.
In addition to damaging regular fishing, these practices cause serious depletion of fish resources and marine environment. Transgressors were elevated administrative penalties for a total amount of 2,000 euros. The seized tools, worth several thousand euros, will be confiscated and destroyed.
