A great example of solidarity and international cooperation comes from Cameroon, where the “Ribelli hearts” project, promoted in partnership with the ASP 5 of Messina and the A Voice Association for Padre Pio Onlus, has guaranteed free cardiological treatments for 20 children suffering from serious congenital heart disease.
The project, made possible thanks to the support of the President of the Asp Messina, Giuseppe CuccìDr. Giancarlo Niutta and Dr. Giuseppe Trimarchirepresented a concrete action of humanitarian medicine, carrying out a vision that integrates the missions in developing countries with the activities of the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Center of the Mediterranean (CCPM).
Thanks to this synergy, interventional hemodynamics and pediatric cardiac surgery have been performed, saving the lives of children who otherwise would not have had access to specialist care. The contribution of the Una Voce for Padre Pio, chaired by Enzo Palumbo is fundamental, who has been at the forefront of health care in the most fragile territories of Central Africa for years.
The Italian medical mission, led by cardiac surgeon Sasha Azzati, has involved several professional figures: the pediatric cardiologist Paolo Guccioneperfusionists Danilo Zuccaro and Giulio Papottocardiologist Rita Calaciurathe neonatologist Diana Suterathe instrumentalists Emanuela Curcio and Angelo Sanzonethe nurse Marilisa Gitto and the reporter Matteo Arrigo.
