New increases in fuel prices as the busiest days for summer travel approach. According to Mimit data, self-service petrol reaches an average of 1.949 euros per liter and diesel at 2.124 euros on the ordinary network. On the motorway, diesel is close to 2.20 euros, with an average of 2.196 euros per litre.
The prices recorded by the Observatory
The Ministry of Business and Made in Italy announces that, based on the latest data collected by the Mimit Observatory on fuel prices, today the average price of fuel in self-service mode along the national road network is equal to 1.949 euros per liter for petrol (1.942 yesterday’s price) and 2.124 euros for diesel (2.107 yesterday’s price).
On the motorway network, however, the average self-service price is 2.040 euros per liter for petrol (2.032 yesterday’s price) and 2.196 euros per liter for diesel (2.181 euros yesterday’s price).

In the EU, prices are still rising sharply on an annual basis
In June 2026, the price of fuels and lubricants for private transport in the EU increased by 13.7% compared to June 2025. This was announced by Eurostat. The increase followed a 20.8% increase in April 2026 and a 20.7% increase in May, compared to the same months in 2025. Across EU countries, fuel and lubricants prices continued to rise in June 2026 compared to June 2025, but at a slower pace than in May 2026, when four countries recorded annual inflation rates for this category above 30%.
In June 2026, compared to June 2025, the largest increases were recorded in Bulgaria (+26.0%), Lithuania (+23.5%), Romania (+23.1%), Finland (+22.0%) and Luxembourg (+20.7%). The lowest increases were recorded in Hungary (+2.3%) and Poland (+5.8%), while in the remaining countries increases ranged from +7.9% in Spain to +18.6% in Cyprus.
On a monthly basis, diesel and petrol are decreasing, Italy is an exception
However, the situation is different for diesel and petrol which recorded falling prices compared to May 2026. On a monthly basis, in June 2026, EU consumers saw diesel prices decrease by 6.4% and petrol prices by 4.2% compared to May 2026. In May 2026, diesel had recorded a drop of 5.8%, while petrol had suffered a slight increase of 0.8% compared to April 2026. Between May and June 2026, diesel prices decreased in all EU countries. The largest decreases were recorded in the Czech Republic (-11.3%), Poland (-9.7%) and Bulgaria (-9.4%), while the smallest in Hungary (-0.6%), Italy (-1.4%) and Slovenia (-1.6%).
Regarding petrol prices, Cyprus (+0.7%) and Italy (+0.5%) were the only EU countries to record increases between May and June 2026. The remaining countries recorded decreases, the most significant in Sweden (-7.8%), Belgium (-7.0%) and Poland (-6.6%).
