G7 Agriculture and Fisheries in Syracuse: Italy builds the “bridge” with Africa

It will be open to all Italian System and for the first time a forum is planned with the participation of ten African countries. It was the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, Francesco Lollobrigidato present an event that will be characterized by innovation, cooperation with developing countries to reaffirm the role of agriculture in the production of quality food and in the management of territoriesi. For the first time, the agriculture ministers will also discuss fishing, a strategic sector for the country.
«We will dialogue with agricultural associations, with the world of research and innovation, with young people, with our industry and our producers, not only in agriculture but also in fishing. Italy must increasingly find that vocation that allows us to be proud and aware of our value and the quality of our productions.” said Minister Lollobrigida. “We chose Syracuse because everything that has passed through Italy has left a mark on this land: the different cultures that have followed one another, the monuments and sites that tell us about us: the combination of contaminations that have made our country unique.”

The ministerial, which will be held on the island of Ortigia from 26 to 28, will be preceded by “Divinazione Expo 24”, from 21 to 29.

Many guests announced: the Commissioners for Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries of the European Parliament and the African Union and the heads of the three UN agencies of the Roman hub (FAO, IFAD, WFP), of the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) and the Cgiar, a global partnership that unites international organisations involved in research on food security.

Four thematic areas identified: science and innovation in agriculture for climate change adaptation; young generations as agents of change in agriculture; the contribution of sustainable fisheries and aquaculture to food security; the contribution of the G7 to the development of agriculture on the African continent.
