The multipurpose center in via Fontana Vecchia in Catanzro hosted the assembly of representatives of the 109 municipalities belonging to the Catanzaro-Crotone Territorial Area for the distribution of natural gas. The meeting followed the signing of the contract for the assignment of the service for the next twelve years, signed last 22 September between the capital municipality, as contracting authority, and Italgas Reti. The participants appreciated the work carried out by the city municipal administration in the various phases of the process which led to the calling, first and subsequently, to the completion of the tender for an investment plan worth over 190 million euros. In fact, Atem Catanzaro-Crotone is the first of its kind in Calabria to launch a new unitary and innovative management model which still has few precedents in Italy. The Administration of the capital city has played an active and propulsive role in this challenge which has pushed all the communities involved to start a joint path in the management of a fundamental public service. The assembly, which met in Catanzaro in view of the delivery of the works, also elected the monitoring committee which includes the mayors of Catanzaro and Crotone, Nicola Fiorita and Vincenzo Voce; the mayor of Soverato, Daniele Vacca; the municipal councilor of Lamezia, Antonio Mastroianni; the city councilors of Catanzaro, Antonio Corsi and Vincenzo Capellupo; Dr. Gina Spina.
The new service will gradually start when the existing distribution contracts expire. In 2025, there will be 76 Municipalities at the starting line, including Catanzaro; then, gradually, the others. The expected benefits are notable: discounts on bills for users – in Catanzaro as early as November 1st; discounts on new connections; interventions for a total of 190 million euros for the strengthening or completion of the network – very important interventions are planned for Catanzaro which will concern different areas of the city; progressive and significant savings for Municipalities over the years to come. The progressive implementation of the new service will be followed by the Atem office which will be set up in the Municipality of Catanzaro and coordinated by the engineer Francesco Fusto who, present at the assembly, illustrated the technical aspects together with the councilor for Public Works, Pasquale Squillace and the coordinator of the Technical Area of Palazzo De Nobili, Giovanni Laganà
