Cryptophones. The first judicial effect in Upper Calabria of the decryption of the latest generation communication tools arrives with the first degree sentence issued against the accused involved in the “gentleman 2” maxinvestigation.
These are the investigations carried out by the Carabinieri under the coordination of the Catanzaro Anti-Mafia District Directorate against members of the Abbruzzese and Forastefano gangs in Cassano. Gangs that also sourced cocaine from foreign countries. The district judge of the regional capital, Fabiana Giacchetti, issued a sentence against the part of the indicted people who had asked to be tried through an abbreviated procedure.
Two positions that immediately catch the eye when reading the verdict: those of Nicola Abbruzzese, understood as “Semiasse” (defended by the lawyers Rossana Cribari and Roberta Provenzano) and Francesco Faillace (defended by the lawyers Enzo Belvedere and Leone Fonte), acquitted of all charges and that of Pasquale Forastefano who, however, was inflicted the highest sentence (20 years of imprisonment).
The sentences
Fiorello Abbruzzese, sentenced to 14 years and 8 months in prison for the crimes contested and reclassified in the attempted form and without the aggravating circumstance of transnationality; Angelo Caravetta, sentenced to 15 years in prison for the crimes contested and unified under the constraint of continuation; Daniele Caravetta, sentenced to 2 years and 8 months in prison; Claudio Franco Cardamone, sentenced to 8 years in prison; Francesco Pasquale Cimino, sentenced to 10 years in prison; Antonio Conocchia, sentenced to 8 years and 8 months in prison; Arcangelo Conocchia, sentenced to 9 years and 6 months in prison; Giuseppe Esposito, sentenced to 4 years and 2 months in prison; Pasquale Forastefano, sentenced to 20 years in prison; Francesco Carmine Lombisani, sentenced to 2 years and 8 months in prison; Davide Paldino, sentenced to 10 years in prison; Paolo Pellicano, sentenced to 3 years and 4 months in prison.
The acquittals
Acquitted because the crime does not exist or for not having committed the crime but only for some charges Gianfranco Arcidiacono, Salvatore Brandi, Claudio Franco Cardamone, Alessandro Forastefano, Rosario Giovanni Fuoco, Giuseppe Andrea Mangano, Nicola Abbruzzese alias “Semiasse”. The public prosecution at the hearing was represented by the anti-mafia prosecutor Stefania Paparazzo.
