“We are in the streets to put the problems of those who work and yet remain poor, and the future of young people, back at the centre.” This was said by the general secretary of the CGIL, Maurizio Landini, as he opened the procession of the national demonstration “Democracy at work” in Rome. “We need – he added – a real change in economic and social policies, we need to increase wages, make those who don’t pay taxes, carry out a real tax reform and invest in healthcare and public and private industrial policies”. Landini then warned that the mobilization “does not end here” and that the union “will evaluate without ruling out anything” if the government and Parliament do not “radically modify a budget law that we consider wrong”. “Today – he concluded – we want to demonstrate that there is an important part of the country that asks for profound changes”.
