The judicial nightmare for the former mayor of Pizzo Gianluca Callipo is over today When the prosecutor of the DDA Annamaria Ottaci and the deputy PG Luigi Maffia took the floor in the Bunker classroom to announce the renunciation of the appeal proposed against Callipo, Maria Alfonsina Stuppia and Daniele Politano.

The appeal process born from the maxi investigation rebirth Scott for the three former defendants will not go on. Their positions could be exceeded and the Court could already issue the verdict in the next hearing or it will be necessary to wait for the end of the trial and the relative sentence to formally declare the definitive acquittal of the three. In their intervention, the representatives of the accusation explained that the central node of the accusations was linked to the dispute of abuse of office against Callipo. However, the crime was repealed and is therefore no longer prosecutable by also carrying the other connected hypotheses behind. The three were defended by the lawyers Armando Veneto, Giovanni Vecchio and Vincenzo Ioppoli.

Callipo had been among the three hundred arrested in the blitz of 19 December 2019. The former mayor of Pizzo and former president of Anci Calabria was accused of external competition in mafia association and abuse of office aggravated by the mafia purposes. According to the accusation, Gianluca Callipo would have been in direct contact with the leaders of the criminal organization operating in Pizzo and San Gregorio d’Ippona, in exchange for favors to the Callipo clans he would have obtained electoral support in the municipal elections of June 2017. In the first degree trial for him, the DDA of Catanzaro had asked for the sentence of 18 years of imprisonment.
