The digital revolution innovates some areas of Gioia Tauro, where the new public ultra-broadband telecommunications network is already operational. Open Fiber has completed the work on the new fiber optic infrastructure which reaches approximately 300 real estate units between private homes, businesses and offices, allowing access to Internet connections with effective and cutting-edge performance. The intervention affected the areas expressly indicated in the tender awarded by Open Fiber: in particular, these are Contrada Morrone; of the area between via Toscanini, Gerace, Guardiola and Palatino; of the area via Pozzillo. Open Fiber’s main partner operators, together with local Internet Service Providers, are already marketing the services on the ultra-fast network created in these areas of Gioia Tauro: interested users can check the coverage of their address on the openfiber.it website, contact one of the available operators and choose your preferred tariff plan to start browsing at very high speed. For any reports, you can always contact Open Fiber through the dedicated web page openfiber.it/contattaci/. The ultra-fast network available today in Gioia Tauro is created with FTTH technology (Fiber-to-the-home, the optical fiber extended inside buildings), the only solution capable of guaranteeing connection speeds over 1 Gigabit per second.
BUL. PLAN
This is a strategic investment for the digitalisation of territories which does not burden the Municipality’s budget. The technological infrastructure, in fact, was financed with regional and state funds as part of the Ultra Wide Band Plan (BUL) managed by Infratel Italia, a company of the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy, with the coordination of the Calabria Region. The impact of laying the fiber was very low, thanks to innovative and sustainable excavation techniques which allowed Open Fiber to reuse existing infrastructure.
THE ADVANTAGES OF THE NEW ULTRABROADBAND NETWORK
«The cabling project on Gioia Tauro testifies to Open Fiber’s commitment to further reducing the digital divide in the area. An objective that we are achieving thanks to the strong synergy with the Calabria Region which has allocated specific community funds to equip the internal areas with connectivity infrastructures. Today, in fact, ultra broadband networks are also supporting the inhabitants of the most peripheral and once less digitalized areas in accessing advanced technological services such as telemedicine, e-learning and smart city applications, all crucial for development economic and social aspects of a population”, explains Giuseppe Crupi, field manager of the company led by the CEO Giuseppe Gola.
WHO IS OPEN FIBER FOR?
Open Fiber is the main Italian FTTH fiber optic operator and among the leaders in Europe. Being a wholesale only operator, it does not sell fiber optic services directly to the end customer, but makes its infrastructure available to all interested operators on equal terms.
