Cultural heritage and environmental heritage I am two strong points of Southern Italy in general and of Calabria in particular and this region, with its young people at the forefront, can promote a new way of thinking that does not see sustainability as an area separate from culture. On the contrary, it is precisely culture that provides the basis for long-term change, because it influences our way of thinking, relating to the environment and imagining the future. Culture is the language through which we can make the complexity of the ecological transition understandable and shared, raising awareness and participation in citizens. culture therefore plays a central role, that of a real driver of transformation, and not just a tool for individual enrichment or an economic sector in itself. The Green Deal, in fact, cannot be just a technical or regulatory issue: it is a cultural challenge, which requires a profound change in our mentalities, our consumption models and our collective values. I believe that in Calabria the level of cultural and academic institutions and young people is absolutely up to this important challenge”.
