Italian sport cries the disappearance of Giuseppe Moioli, 97 years old, Olympic champion in London 1948 In the four without rowing and the oldest Olympic gold of blue sport in life.
Moioli, who died this morning in his home in Olcio, a hamlet of Mandello del Lario, had been a historical figure of the glorious Moto Guzzi of Mandello del Lario, a company to which he remained faithful throughout his life, training until a few months ago.
Born on August 8, 1927 in Mandello del Lario, Giuseppe Moioli wrote some of the brightest pages of Italian rowing. Together with Elio Morille, Giovanni Invernizzi and Franco Faggi formed the crew of the Quattro without between 1947 and 1950 dominated the international scene, bringing Italy back on the roof of the world after the long break caused by the war. Together they conquered gold at the London Olympic Games 1948 and three European titles (Lucerne 1947, Amsterdam 1949, Milan 1950). Moioli enriched his palmares with three other European titles, in Amsterdam 1954 and Bled 1956, always in four without but with different formations, and then to Poznan 1958 as a member of the eight.
