The Provincial Health Authority of Messina will compensate half a million euros to the family members of a woman resident in the Santagata area who died in April 2014, at the age of 45, at the Sant’Agata Militello hospital.
In fact, an amicable conclusion to the dispute was reached with acceptance of the conciliation proposal formulated by the Second Civil Section of the Court of Messina, chaired by Ugo Scavuzzo.
The woman’s family, her husband and two children represented by the lawyer Luca Agostino Ninone, had already filed a complaint with the prosecutor’s office immediately after her death but the related criminal proceedings ended with the judge for preliminary investigations dismissing the file against unknown persons. On the basis of the reports of the experts of the time, who highlighted the cause of death as acute dissection of the aorta, and also considering the failure to carry out an autopsy, no incompetence was in fact detected in the diagnostic assessment conducted by the doctors who treated the woman. In 2019, the civil judgment was therefore initiated with the involvement of the provincial health authority during which a preventive technical assessment was ordered by the Court making use of the technical expertise of the specialists Antonino Mondì and Michele Giannetto.
