The motorist who fled yesterday after hitting a 92-year-old woman right in the center showed up at the local police headquarters this morning. He is a 64-year-old man originally from Villa San Giovanni who provided his version of events to the officers who questioned him. After the formalities, the driver was reported for escape and failure to help. His driving license was also immediately withdrawn.
The man said he had accepted the invitation of the Viale Aldo Moro Command to avoid more serious consequences. The local police were in fact one step away from identification thanks to the vision of the video surveillance systems. The proceeding is still under investigation and the responsibilities of the accused will have to be ascertained by the competent judicial authority.
