First he ignored the military’s halt, then he started a short escape convinced he could get away with it. But the race of a young motorist, already known to the police, ended on the Sellia Marina seafront, where he was stopped.
It all started around 2am last night along State Road 106. The Carabinieri of the Radiomobile Division noticed a suspicious car and ordered it to stop for a check. The driver, instead of stopping, pressed on the accelerator at the sight of the paddle, initially managing to cover his tracks.
The reaction of the police was immediate: the entire area was searched, with the support of other crews from Cropani and Catanzaro. The intense searches bore fruit shortly afterwards on the local seafront: the young man had hidden the car near a pine forest, hoping not to be discovered.
The checks carried out on the spot immediately clarified the reason for such a rush. The boy had started driving with a blood alcohol level well above the permitted limit and, as if that wasn’t enough, he hid some ready-to-use doses of narcotic substances in the passenger compartment. Checks on the documents also revealed that the vehicle was already subject to an administrative tax arrest. A mix of infringements that cost him dearly: immediate withdrawal of his driving licence, a maxi-fine of 3,000 euros and reporting to the Prefecture.
The control is part of the broader summer prevention plan prepared by the Provincial Command along the main arteries and in the hot spots of the nightlife of the Ionian coast
