«If the ASPs, hospitals and polyclinics in Sicily do not reach the objectives assigned by my government, especially with regard to reducing waiting lists, together with the managers of the companies, the administrative and health directors, whose appointments are being completed in these hours, will also automatically be dismissed».

This is the strict indication that the President of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani, gave this morning to the Health Councillor, Giovanna Volo, to be transferred to all the general managers who will be contracting the top management of the strategic directorates in the coming days.

Managers will have to include, as already done in their contracts, specific and concrete objectives especially on the reduction of waiting lists, with quarterly monitoring and a very rigorous annual verification of their achievement, under penalty of automatic forfeiture, even after only the first year of taking office.

“Reducing waiting lists – says Schifani – is one of the main commitments undertaken by my government since taking office. Together with Councilor Volo and the department’s managers we are working concretely in this direction. I believe it is a duty that the heads of the Health Authorities, as a whole, fully assume the responsibility of guaranteeing patients timely access to care and for this reason they must be subjected to the necessary and rigorous checks of their objectives. If they do not achieve them, they will all go home, even before the end of their mandate. We must give citizens qualified and rapid answers to their health needs”.
