On Saturday, following the request for Uiltrasporti and in consideration of the emergency in place linked to the hijacking of heavy traffic in the city center, The findings previously postponed on Friday were made. The goal was to verify the possibility of using the only slide present at the port of Tremestieri, in order to guarantee the operational continuity of the port operators and reduce urban congestion.
The further checks on the seabed, carried out on the disposal of the port system authority of the Strait, they gave positive outcome: Favorable opinion was expressed for the opening of the slide on the mountain side of the airport. This was announced by the general secretary of Uiltrasporti, Antonino di Mento, underlining that now the Port Authority – Maritime Authority of the Strait will be able to proceed in the next few hours to issue the opening order. However, the situation remains of extreme emergency: “To fully get out of this critical condition – writes DI Mento – it is still necessary to obtain authorization to move the sandy masses by the territory and the environment of the Sicilian region, as well as the engagement of the draga for the complete cleaning of the seabed. Only in this way can normality be restored both from the employment and city security point of view”. “Uiltrasporti – concludes Di Mento – will monitor the evolution of the situation and to solicit urgent interventions for the restoration of the full operation of the port, but also for the management of these processes that damage the business economy, the employment, the safety of citizens”.
