Not just missing labels. The Carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Crotone, under the direction of the Prosecutor’s Office led by Domenico Guarascio, combed the area between Cirò Marina and Strongoli, bringing to light a scenario of widespread illegality which affected farmhouses, betting centers and bars.

The farmhouse of horrors in Cirò

The most striking case concerns a farm in the Cirotano area, transformed into a warehouse for potentially dangerous foods for consumers. The cross-check between the Carabinieri of the local stations, the NAS of Cosenza, the NIL of Crotone and the ASP staff revealed structural and hygienic-sanitary deficiencies so serious as to require the definitive suspension of the activity.

In the back room, the military found and seized over 280 kg of “ghost” goods: sausages, cheeses and preserves without any traceability or labelling. As if that wasn’t enough, the inspection was extended to the livestock section, where numerous unregistered livestock were discovered. For these animals, in the absence of documents certifying their state of health, the competent authority has already ordered sanitary slaughter.

Gambling and exploitation

The Army’s range of action did not stop at food. In Cirò Marina, the focus has shifted to an Internet Point and betting room. Here, the administrator was reported in a state of freedom: the accusations concern the lack of health surveillance of the workers and the failure to comply with inspection requirements.

An operation that led to fines of 4,000 euros, forming part of a broader strategy to combat pathological gambling that afflicts the weakest groups. In Strongoli, however, a bar-pizzeria has ended up in the crosshairs. In this case, the military found failure to report to INAIL and systematic violations of workplace safety regulations, with fines exceeding 1,000 euros.
