THE’Comprehensive Institute makes Quattromiglia participate in the XXI edition of “I light me less”an initiative that promotes the culture of environmental sustainability and energy saving by developing a campaign to reduce waste and optimize resources. Presented for the first time in 2005, in 2022 it was established by the Italian Parliament as a national day of energy saving and sustainable lifestyles.
Every year, on February 16, as a sign of adhesion to M’illumino less, the highest Italian institutions turn off the facades of their buildings and museums, art galleries, archaeological sites are involved. Public administrations, schools and universities, associations and citizens organize initiatives and meetings on the topics of sustainability, zero impact concerts, candlelit dinners.
Planit (Association of Italian Planetaries) has decided to make the national day on light pollution converge on the same day, a phenomenon that causes significant environmental damage. Among these, it prevents the observation of the sublime show that nature offers us and that we must protect: the quilted sky of stars. The celestial vault is part of the environment in which we live and his degradation involves not only men, but nature itself.
Hence the choice of the school to unite, also this year, to the initiative. The didactic proposals were addressed in an interdisciplinary perspective and placed in the field of the STEM disciplines. The topics in question were covered from a scientific point of view and active citizenship. With creativity and commitment, pupils have implemented a series of concrete actions to reduce energy consumption and promote a more sustainable lifestyle; They participated in creative workshops, creating billboards and awareness slogans, gamification activities to reason and process information through the game. With an experiential teaching, they created small do -it -yourself electrical circuits and lit small lights that, put together, have given birth to a constellation visible to our latitudes, with the hope that, over time, the human eye will be able to see An increasing number of stars. Then yes, it will mean that we are on the path of change.
The initiatives have not limited themselves to class activities. The students also involved their families, proposing actions such as turning off the lights when they are not needed, detaching the plug of unused appliances and preferring sustainable means of transport such as the bicycle.
The goal is to clearly communicate the importance of the daily behaviors that each of us must adopt to intelligently optimize resources and reduce pollution. The children remain the real protagonists of change and the small daily gestures can make a difference for a more sustainable future.
The commitment by pupils, teachers and families does not end with the day dedicated to “M’illumino less”. To promote energy saving, long -term projects have been started and good practices aimed at safeguarding the resources of our planet.
