The Municipality of Cosenza will start the institutional process for joining the national campaign “R1PUD1A 2026 – I object to war”, promoted by Emergency. The proposal will be submitted to the City Council for examination personally by Mayor Franz Caruso for subsequent approval of the relevant resolution.
“Peace – states Franz Caruso – cannot remain a principle solemnly affirmed by our Constitution, but must translate into a daily commitment of the institutions, called to promote the culture of dialogue, solidarity and respect for human rights. I will therefore submit for examination by the Municipal Council the proposal for the Municipality of Cosenza to join the “R1PUD1A 2026 – I object to war” campaign, so that our city can also give a concrete signal in support of the values of peace and nonviolence. I believe that local authorities have the duty to contribute to the formation of a civil conscience increasingly oriented towards the rejection of war and the construction of a coexistence based on cooperation between peoples, on dialogue and on the responsibility of the new generations.
Membership will allow the municipal administration to promote an awareness-raising action aimed at young people and citizens on the issues of peace and non-violence, enhancing the tools provided by the law regarding conscientious objection in the event of the reinstatement of military service.
The initiative is part of the path that the municipal administration intends to strengthen to support policies of education for peace, active citizenship and democratic coexistence, confirming the role of local authorities in the promotion of constitutional values and solidarity between peoples.
