Larissa Iapichino won the silver medal in the long jump at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Torun, Poland. The Italian finished in second place with a measurement of 6.87 metres, obtained on the sixth and final jump.
The last jump is decisive
Iapichino’s race began with lower measurements, 6.49 and 6.69, followed by a null and a 6.66. On the fifth attempt the Italian had already changed her pace, landing at 6.84, before improving further in the last series with the jump that earned her the silver.
The gold went to the Portuguese Agate De Sousa, capable of reaching 6.92, while the bronze was won by the Colombian Natalia Linares with 6.80.
Fourth Italian medal in Torun
For Larissa Iapichino this is the first medal at world level. For Italy it is the fourth medal of the indoor world championship, after the three golds won by Andy Diaz in the triple, Nadia Battocletti in the 3000 and Zaynab Dosso in the 60 metres.
The Florentine jumper’s showcase already includes the European indoor gold won in Apeldoorn, the silver at the 2024 Rome European Championships and the 2023 European under 23 gold. At the 2024 Paris Olympics she finished in fourth place, again with a measurement of 6.87.
