Operation by the Carabinieri of San Ferdinando against the illegal abandonment of waste in the heart of the municipality. During a patrol service aimed at preventing environmental crimes, the military of the Arma identified a large area used as an illegal landfill near the municipal cemeterybetween two main arteries of the city.
The area, which covered approximately 150 square meters, hosted five separate piles of waste, including hazardous materials such as asbestos, a substance that is highly harmful to human health and the environment. Thanks to their timely intervention, the Carabinieri immediately placed the entire site under seizure, preventing further risks of contamination.
The investigations led to the initiation of procedures to identify the owners of the land and ascertain any responsibilities. Seven local citizens have been reported for violation of Article 192 of the Consolidated Environmental Act, which requires owners to avoid the uncontrolled accumulation of waste on their land. Even in the absence of direct complicity in the abandonment of waste, the law punishes the negligence of those who do not intervene to prevent their land from turning into an open-air landfill. This operation confirms the daily commitment of the Carabinieri in the defense of the environment and public health, reaffirming its central role in ensuring safety and compliance with current regulations.
In any case, the proceedings are currently pending in the preliminary investigation phase and the actual responsibility of the suspects will be examined during the subsequent trial. Further investigative and evidentiary developments are not excluded, also in favor of the persons under investigation.
