In the night just passed, the collective embrace of the Crotonese at the Madonna di Capocolonna was renewed. Thousands of people like usual, participated in the procession of the quadricello with the icon of the black Virgin, which this morning at the dawn brought to the shoulder from the Portantini has reached the sanctuary on the Lacinio promontory for 25 centuries sacred place to the Crotonese. At one and thirty of tonight 21 blind blows greeted the release of the quadricello and the start of the long procession that started from the churchyard of the Cathedral Basilica.
In front of the town hall, the first stop with the mayor of Crotone Vincenzo Voce who paid homage to the patron saint of the city (together with Dionigi Aeropagita, the first bishop of Crotone), with a bouquet of flowers. The long serpentone of faithful, preceded by the musical band then crossed via Roma, under a “rain” of colored tickets with the invocations of the Crotonese to Maria of Capocolonna. Led by the bishop’s vicar Don Lino Leto, by the president of the chapter of the cathedral Msgr. Ezio Limina and the rector of the Sanctuary Don Bernardino Mongelluzzi, the procession has reached Viale Gramsci and the city cemetery. Here Msgr. Limina recalled the importance of the figure of Mary for Christians and the link between the Crotone community and the Mother of God.
Then, a participatory group of faithful continued the long pilgrimage in the night behind the quadricello, getting inheritable on the climb of the hero to reach the nascent sunlight the Capocolonna promontory. From here tonight the sacred icon to the Crotonese, aboard a boat, will return by sea to the city center for the conclusion of the pilgrimage that represents the highlight of the Marian celebrations.
