Incendiary attack in San Giovanni di Gerace, in the locride, against the car of a computer engineer, Gianmarco Scalettacandidate for the non -elected city council in the administrative ones held in June 2024. Scaletta lived for many years in northern Italy and then decided to return to San Giovanni di Gerace, his native country.
The cyber engineer car was first sprinkled with flammable liquid and then set on fire, being destroyed. The flames also damaged the entrance door of the scaletta house. The firefighters and the carabinieri went to the scene of the incendiary attack. Regarding the motive of the intimidation, no hypothesis is not excluded. The mayor of San Giovanni di Gerace intervened on the episode, Antonio Barillaro.
“As mayor, as a city council and as a office administration – said Barillaro – we firmly condemn the malicious fire of Gianmarco Scaletta’s car. It is a cowardly and unacceptable gesture that affects everyone, undermining the sense of security and civil coexistence that belongs to us. Our community will not let itself be intimidated by anything and anyone. In fact, we will continue to promote the values of legality, respect and social cohesion with determination ».
