Winning a competition is always a source of pride, but winning the first prize in an initiative dedicated to Memory It takes an even more significant value. The students of the class IIC of the first degree secondary school of the Cosenza III Comprehensive Institute “Roberta Lanzino” in via Negroni have distinguished themselves to VI edition of the competition “For a critical conscience – Memory”promoted byAssociation “Just one among the nations Angelo De Fiore”led by Prof. Lucia De Fiore“Peace Ambassador”. The award ceremony took place last March 6thon the occasion of the European Memorial Dayat the Parish of San Giovanni Battista.
The pupils, under the guidance of the prof. Sergio Mannaprofessor of art and image, they worked intensely to create a work capable of transmitting the deepest meaning of memory, intertwining history, emotion and art. The project was the result of a multidisciplinary didactic path that also involved teachers Anna Rita Petrolo and Rita Peopleengaged respectively in the subjects of literature, history and geography.
A work that speaks through symbols and contrasts
The rewarding work, entitled “Indelible memories”is one reflection on the weight of the history and the consequences of human actions. The Pantheona symbol of majesty and eternal memory, is reinterpreted as a metaphor of the past that weighs on the present. Its architectural grandeur dramatically contrasts with the humiliating condition of deporteesrepresented in the ordered row, symbol of the dehumanization and reduction of the individual to a simple number.
The upper perspective underlines the alienation of the prisoners and the loss of references, while the presence of a cold ravine and barbed wire Create a barrier between hope and despair. The Pantheon, with its millennial history, becomes like this witness of the atrocities of the pasta warning for the future to be different.
Hidden messages and symbolic details
The work is characterized by a wise use of color, with tones warm and cold which evoke conflicting emotions, leaving room for a personal interpretation by the observer.
